Biography

Bernard J. (Bernie) was born in 1920 in Outagamie, Wisconsin in either Buchanan or Kimberly.[1][2] He was the son of Walter van Iperen and Theodora Maria van den Boogard.

On April 3 1940, Bernard was 19, living with his family at 222 North Wilson Street in Kimberly, Outagamie, Wisconsin, and working as a beater helper at a paper mill.[1]

He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on January 10 1943, receiving his basic training in Boston, Massachusetts. He served during World War II with the rank of seaman, first class.[2][3]

He passed away in 2008 at age 87 and was buried in Kimberly in the Holy Name Cemetery.[2]
